It’s
now official that Malawi state President, Madam Joyce Banda has lost the
Presidential race to Prof. Peter Muthalika who has managed to get 36.4% while
his predecessor has only managed to get 20.2% of the national vote
respectively. This elections was the most hot and contended election in that
there were about twlelve presidential candidate who all wanted to make it to
state house.
Such
Presidential candidates include, JB and APM themselves, Lazarus Chakwela, Atupele Muluzi, Mark Katsonga, Davis
Katsonga, James Nyondo, Friday Jumbe, kamuzu Chibambo and Pastor Helen Singh.
On
Parliamentary vote, the DPP won the race again by getting 50, MCP 48, PP 26, UDF
14, Chipani cha Fuko and Aford got a single seat while independent have managed
to get 52 of the seats in parliament.
As
Members of Parliament are to be sworn into office, Malawians are looking forward
to seeing how life will be like in a new parliament where close to 70% are new
comers. Also the failure of the old guards in Malawi parliamentary life gives
lesson to the new comers that they must stay principled and not live like
political prostitutes moving from one party to the other because in the new
Malawi the electorates sees and are able to judge at the end.
