MALAWI NEW PRESIDENT: HER EXCELLENCY JOYCE BANDA

Malawi has a first female President and her name is Her Excellency Joyce Banda who was sworn in this afternoon by the country’s Chief Justice, Lovemore Munlo. President Banda has taken leadership of the small Southern African nation after the sudden death of Prof. Bingu Wa Muthalika who died of a cardiac arrest two days ago. According to the constitution of the land, a Vice President automatically takes over after the death or incapacitation of the President.
The diseased and Her Excellency Joyce Banda were all voted into the office of the Presidency and Vice President together during the 2009 Presidential elections. However due to some political misunderstandings, the Malawi’s new leader was fired from the Progressive Party and formed her own party called the Peoples’ Party.
Her Excellency Joyce Banda once worked as the Vice-President of the Republic, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister for Gender, Children's Affairs and Community Services under the Muthalika administration.
President  Banda has become the first southern Africa female President and a second Africa’s female President. She will stays in office to finish up the second term of office of the late President Bingu Wa Muthalika.
In her speech at the swearing ceremony, President Banda called on all Malawians to remain calm and remain united as the nation mourns the death of President Muthalika.
